EARLY ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANIZATION (ISRO) 


  • Satellite Launch Vehicles:

 ISRO developed its own satellite launch vehicles to reduce dependency on foreign launch providers.
 The Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV) program began in the early 1980s, leading to the successful             launch of Rohini-1, India's first indigenously developed satellite, into orbit on July 18, 1980.

  • Remote Sensing Satellites: 

Recognizing the importance of satellite-based Earth observation, ISRO initiated the development         of remote sensing satellites. The launch of the Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) series of satellites,             beginning with IRS-1A in 1988, revolutionized various sectors such as agriculture, forestry, water         resources, urban planning, and disaster management by providing valuable data and imagery.

  • Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV): 

Building upon the success of SLV-3, ISRO developed the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) to    launch satellites into polar orbits. PSLV's inaugural flight in 1993 demonstrated its reliability and        versatility, making it one of the world's most successful launch vehicles.
